The future of Burmington, Willington & Tidmington Village Hall is in your hands.
The superior interest in the hall (effectively who owns it) is the freehold. This is vested in the Diocesan Trustees “for their general purposes” having been given to them under the Will of Caroline Standert Staunton, proved with a Codicil, on 26th February 1932, to hold on behalf of the Charity known as the Former Church of England School at Burmington.
Derived out of this is a leasehold interest of the property, formerly comprising Burmington Church of England School, granted by the Lease of 15th September 1973.

It is this leasehold title which is vested in the Official Custodian for Charities on trust for the purposes of a village hall for the use of the inhabitants of the Parish of Burmington. This lease ended in 2023.
The Village Hall is today a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and has approached the Diocese about the renewal of the lease. Whilst the Diocese is willing to do so, this will involve some considerable expense and it has raised some concerns among the trustees and volunteers regarding the sustainability of the Village Hall. We have to be sure that if we renew the lease, the Village Hall will remain viable.
We desperately need enthusiastic people to take up the mantle of running the Village Hall if it is still to be a part of the life of our villages in the coming years. If a sufficient number of people do not come forward to run it and its events the Village Hall will close.
We are holding a public meeting, open to everyone in the three villages, at the Village Hall on Tuesday 3rd March 2026 at 7.30pm.
Anyone who feels they could contribute their time and expertise to the ongoing running and development of the Village Hall, please come along and offer your services. We are looking for people to fulfil a variety of tasks : Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Caretaker, Social media and Marketing.
If no one commits to the responsibilities of running the village hall we will unfortunately have to look to dissolve the CIO and surrender the village hall to its custodians.
It would be a terrible shame if that happened. Please come along help us save the future of this vital village resource.
Kind Regards,
Burmington, Willington & Tidmington Village Hall Trustees and Volunteer Committee
