Unfortunately, we have had to cancel several of our events due to the pandemic. However, following on from our meeting last night we have decided that we will continue to hold events for all our residents, but we are asking that everyone if they can to please, please, please book ahead. This allows us to keep the events running if we have enough interest and minimise wastage and costs. Several events have been cancelled and afterwards people have said “Oh I would have come” but didn’t let us know and unfortunately the committee's talents do not run to mind reading.
So with that in mind if you want to come to our talk and Lebanese evening on 12th February ( Please contact Sonia 01608661459) or our St David’s Day meal 4th March ( Please contact Dick on 07718890993) please let us know. We will also have the breakfast on Saturday 5th Feb and Coffee Morning 24th Feb (Please contact Robyn on 07966849149) We are also looking for a name for the coffee morning as it isn’t actually a coffee morning. Burmington Brews? Bertie’s Bakes? Community Cakes? Cake in the community? Please text/ email in your suggestions because ours are rubbish! The Christmas Social Gathering will unfortunately not be taking place this year due to the outbreak of a virulent pocket of coronavirus in the area. To help cheer everyone up after their disappointment Santa’s little elves have been decking the hall with everything you could possibly need for a fantastic Christmas. Huge thanks to the elves who have battled the roaring gales and icy storms to put up the tree and find homes for all of Santa’s friends. Please come and have a look at their hard work. Thank you, Dick, Karen, Robyn and Dawn. Thank you, also, to Hill Farm Christmas Trees for the huge, healthy tree. The Village Hall committee have their fingers and toes crossed that the breakfast on the 1st January (10am - 12pm) will be going ahead. We firmly believe it will be the solace needed to soothe the jaded souls recovering from New Year’s Eve excess. (Covid permitting) £5 per person. To book please text/ call Robyn on 07966849149. If you have any special dietary requests, please let us know. We regret to inform you that we have made the decision to postpone the Christmas Social gathering which was to take place on Saturday 4th December, due to the increase of Covid cases in the area.
The winner of the inaugural pumpkin competition was Emmy Tyrell aged 12 from Burmington. Well done Emmy her amazing pumpkin snail was a unanimous winner. It was a month of firsts for the village hall as we also had the initial village hall coffee morning on the last Thursday of October. It was well attended but we would love more people to come. We would like to invite anyone who is working from home who would like to take a well earned break, parents who are at home and are looking for something to do with the little ones and anyone who has a spare half an hour to come and join us for a cuppa and cake on Thursday January 27th 2022. The Winter Gathering is taking place in the village hall at 6pm on 4th December. Come and join us for festive treats and mulled wine. There will also be some local mulled cider and Ken’s famous Christmas quiz! Everybody is welcome and we would love to see you all. There is no breakfast in December, but we are having a New Year’s Day Breakfast on Saturday 1st January 10am - 12pm. If you have friends and family staying over and need sustenance following New Year’s Eve shenanigans, come and join us for a full English that is absolutely the best way to start the New Year. Please book on 07966849149. £5 per person. Future Events: 22nd January 6.30pm Curry and Quiz - Tables of four £40 per table. Text/call 07966849149 to book. Thank you to everyone who completed one of our surveys about the village hall. The results made for very interesting reading and will go on to inform our plans for the village hall going forward. One of the comments we had was that we don’t do anything specifically for children so to remedy that we would like to start a Halloween pumpkin competition for the under 18’s. The rules are simple: Use your imagination- you can carve, stencil, paint, add anything that takes your fancy, turn it into a cat, a bat or a witch’s hat. Go crazy! Take a photo and upload it to Instagram. Tag @burmingtonvillagehall and #burmingtonpumpkins before midnight on Halloween. The competition will be judged by the committee and the winner will receive a £ 25 Amazon Gift Card. We can’t wait to see what you create. 🎃 If anyone over the age of 18 wants to join in there’s a bottle of homemade berry gin for the winner! Please make sure you put your age on your entry. SEE EVENTS PAGE FOR DETAILS. We also have a few dates to go in your diary: Breakfasts 27th November 2021 10am-12pm and 1st January 2022 10am-12pm. Winter Gathering 4th December 6pm mince pies, mulled wine, and good cheer! The fish and chip supper held on the 4th September was extremely popular with lots of people coming to socialise. The weather was surprisingly warm and dry and everyone could sit and eat their fish and chips followed by lots of yummy puddings on the village green. Massive thanks to Irene for all her hard work in organising this event and Dick and Lee for setting up tables and chairs.
Just a quick note from the village hall committee – we have sent out surveys to the villagers to see where people want us to develop the village hall facilities. A massive thank you to everyone who has completed one and a gentle reminder to those who haven’t. If you could please get the completed forms back to your village representative before the end of August it would be appreciated so we can collate and analyse the results ahead of our meeting next month.
We have a couple of dates for the diary : Fish & Chip supper 4th September and also the return of the monthly Village Breakfast on Saturday 25th September 10-12pm. £5 per person. We would really appreciate it if you could let us know if you are coming by dropping a text / call to 07966849149 |
